Create an aesthetically pleasing, but structurally sound 1:50 scale model of Santiago Calatrava's "Oculus" World Trade Center Transportation Hub. Challenges faced included integrating light and steel components, fabrication logistics, combining angular and organic shapes, managing the fabrication team, and meeting strict production deadlines.
All projects for LEGOLAND parks start with project managers working with architects and planners to develop detailed design briefs. From there the LEGO model can be designed to the correct scale and size restraints. This design process typically involves analyzing the real building and breaking down and “characterizing” the core elements of the building.
After researching and starting the design process a team of model builders will take the digital plans and start fabricating the final model. This process involves a large amount of back and forth between design and fabrication teams to ensure the most efficient build time.
